Led by the Virginia MGMA in collaboration with the CT MGMA, DE MGMA, and NY MGMA, PA MGMA and WV MGMA.

This educational activity will focus on two distinct but related topics that place patients, physicians and staff at risk:  Distracted Practice and Provider Burnout.  The program will highlight the link between distraction and burnout and examine strategies to mitigate risk and enhance patient safety.  The activity will also touch upon the importance of provider well-being and work-life balance.    

About the Speaker

Shelley Rizzo
Patient Safety Risk Manager, Doctors Company
Independent Risk Management and Legal Nurse Consultant

Shelly received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Wright State University and a Master of Science in Patient Care Services Administration from the University of Utah. 

She is a Certified Professional in Hospital Risk Management, a Certified Professional in Patient Safety and a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant. 

Her experience of over 30 years includes clinical, administrative and leadership positions in neonatal, pediatric and adult care, as well as, hospital risk management, quality management, and patient safety with several reputable healthcare systems.

In addition to investigating, analyzing and coding hundreds of complex adverse events, she also assisted in the development and implementation of a large physician peer review program, electronic adverse event reporting systems and patient safety transformation initiatives.

 

Continuing Education Units

Earn up to 1.0 continuing education unit hours for each hour of education from the ACMPE, American College of Medical Practice Executives and up to 1.0 continuing professional educational credit hours for Certified Public Accountants for each hour of education from, The New York State Education Department, Professional Licensing Services. Our events are eligible for continuing education units as awarded by other professional associations. We recommend that you contact your professional association for their approval process.
